Quiver Tree Forest and Giants Playground
In the vicinity of Keetmanshoop is located a quiver tree forest. The quiver tree is not really a tree, rather a plant of the genus aloe (Aloe dichochoma). Bushmen used the branches for making their quivers. Nearby is the Giants Playground with interesting fomations of dolorit rocks.
Fish River Canyon
The Fish River Canyon is the largest canyon in Africa and the second largest in the world after the Grand Canyon. It is 160 km long and 500 m deep.
Luderitz was the first German settlement in Namibia. In 1908 diamonds were discovered and the city became rich. Today, the diamond deposits have long been exhausted and the lives from tourism and fishing industry.
Sossusvlei is a salt and clay pan surrounded by high red dunes located in the southern part of the Namib Desert. It is one of the major visitor attractions of Namibia.
Swakopmund is a port town in western Namibia where many German colonial buildings are preserved.
